Somebody stole my debit card information and fled to Montreal for sushi, boat rides, theatre visits, and expensive breakfasts. They also went to Iles de Soeurs or something. I guess this is one way to learn geography.

The "Youth Vote"

Jon Stewart: I love you. Matt Lauer: you, I love a little bit less.

You know, when they're not logging in on the Internet, recent studies show that 18-29 year olds get most of their political news from the Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Really, Matt? Are these the recent studies from 2004, the last time we had a presidential election and everyone was horror-struck by that fact? Or perhaps in 2006, during the congressional election season, when the same bloody thing happened? FOUR YEARS HAVE PASSED. COVER A NEW FUCKING STORY. THERE'S A REASON WHY THE WORD IS "NEWS" AND NOT "OLDS".

And beyond that, can I just parse the awkwardness of that sentence? Because that is a giant fucking participle you've left dangling there, Matt (or more likely Matt's team of awkward writers). In fact, you just made me wince - how do these recent studies log in on the internet? With their magic paper fingers? And I get that you're trying to say that those of us ages 18-29 do also get our political news coverage from websites rather than printed and/or television news media, but what you actually sound like is a doddering old man talking about this newfangled trend that you presume most of your viewership has only a passing acquaintance with.

Also, the phrase you were looking for is not logging in but logging on - you log into a website, you log onto the internet. The former implies the act of giving your username and password to gain access to private material, logging on implies staying around to read that material or accessing material that you did not need to enter a username and password to get to in the first place, more closely synonymous with surfing the web and more accurate for sites like cnn.com, msnbc.com, news.bbc.co.uk, or most of the recent news on nytimes.com. But I can see how nuances like that might go over the head of writers who can't even fix a dangling participle.

You know what gets my vote, Matt? A combination of grammar that doesn't make me have to pause and think about what you might be trying to say, and a person who doesn't talk down to 18-29 year olds and those who cater to them in some misguided attempt to make the rest of their viewing audience feel superior. That's what gets my vote, Matt.

To use one of our crazy newfangled internet phrases: epic fail.

what has been seen...cannot be unseen.

A great video to rectify an otherwise beautiful yet somewhat tainted day:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3509398

I like how Manny is all, "you can fold your pants over your socks to create any kind of look you want..." *swoon* As if high socks weren't ridiculously hot enough, he goes and does something like this.

Anyway, I was doing laundry at the local laundromat today since I didn't have enough quarters to go to the machines in my building...which was kind of a poor but unavoidable decision.

One of the machines ended up not even drying my clothes after 30 minutes and 75 cents, and this guy a little shorter than I am also keeps hanging around my dryers as well. OK, I'm thinking, this guy is probably drying clothes too.

But then I notice I'm the only one occupying the dryers. So I go over to one of my dryers to check up on my slowly-drying towels. And then I notice from in the reflection of the dryer glass that he's pulling it (it's not out, rather, but he's "gratifying" himself through his pants) while looking at my laundry. GROSS.

Not wanting to cause a scene, I calmly walk to the front desk where a nice Asian lady steps out and I curiously ask her who the guy standing by my dryers is, and if he's here actually doing laundry or just loitering. She looks at him, smiles at me, and mentions that he's one of her customers. Oooookay. At this point, he's been found out, so he's scared shitless and runs over to the OPPOSITE SIDE of the laundromat where he's washing his clothes. Haha.

Moments later, he actually comes back to a table that's not too far from where I am to fold his stuff, and I'm at a table that's tucked behind another row of washers alongside a girl who's also there washing clothes but was apparently oblivious to all the public masturbation. I kept my eye on him long enough to make sure no hands were traveling downwards. Before I leave, the attendant lady gives me a friendly wave good-bye, as if to say, "come back and wash again, not everyone here will jerk off in front of your laundry!"

At least I only do laundry about every three weeks? Yeah, you're not going to see me in there anytime soon.

August Update!

So much for being better about updating. I was thinking I'd post something every couple of days, or at least once a week and here it is almost a month since my last entry. The problem is that when I feel like posting I'm not near a computer.

I hope all of you Floridians or people who were visiting Florida weren't hit too bad by Fay or Gustav. Atlanta had remnants of it and I was thinking of all of you.

Not much is new here. I'm in major Olympics withdrawal. I don't ever remember being this into an Olympics. China shouldn't have been awarded the Olympics based on their human rights policies and the overall actions of the government. However, they put on one heck of a show. London should just do some sort of melody with famous British musicians because it's going to be next to impossible to top the showmanship.

Outside of the ceremonies I bought into the hype hook, line, and sinker, and am now a huge Michael Phelps fan. Yes, he's probably a manwhore and doesn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box(although I think Ryan Lochte has him beat in that category.) I've sipped the Kool-Aid and I'm going to overlook the downsides and revel in his crazy athleticism and amazing body.  I'm not usually one to get all hot and bothered over muscles, but swimmers have the perfect physiques. Tall, lithe, and toned. I think the men's swim team probably had more than a little influence on my Olympic viewing habits.  Plus, the fashion in which they won. Beyond the swimming I loved all the background stories about the athletes. Two more years until Vancouver. I don't see get as excited about it though.

I was looking forward to the DNC, but not as much anymore. The Edwards affair and the choice of Biden have me a bit disillusioned. So I probably won't be watching most of the convention.

This weekend I have Mayer in Atlanta. I'm not as excited about it as I probably should be. I'm actually more excited to see DRH the night before, performing with John's band. I took my brother to see him at Eddie's Attic when he was in town during the holidays and since then he's been a fan, so he's going with me. It should be a good time to see him "live and electric."

Also, I've never been a big O.A.R. fan, but for some reason I can't get enough of their new single, Shattered. I guess that bodes well for the boat. Now I know/like three of their songs.

Current Music: O.A.R.- Shattered
