First snowboarding extravaganza of the season today. It's gonna be cooold and snowy. Apparently only 1 run and 1 lift is open since it's still "pre-season" and it'll be mostly man made snow. White ribbon of death. Can't wait!

I'm the worst decision maker ever when it comes to trivial things. My jacket selection was no different. I bought $800 worth of jackets from Backcountry so that i could try on different jackets and sizes and colors. (i'm returning everything else, no worries, i don't make that much money. haha)

I'm not getting a new board this year. I had to really convince myself that i didn't need it. And i don't, so i'll be ok.

I settled on this jacket:
Oakley Lighter Fare

It's basically a shell with no insulation so i got a couple different fleeces to wear under it.

Plain black Burton fleece:

Super cute purple plaid fleece:

and then these pants:
Oakley Profile pants

And these boots:

Burton Sapphire

AND it's been snowing the past few days. I can't tell you how happy i get when i drive past the ski resorts and see all the runs covered in white again.

yesterday morning i was hungover and making myself some cinnamon pancakes. I held my metal spatula out and was about to lick a piece of pancake off of it when the pancake fell off and my tongue touched the hot metal and litterally SIZZLED. It hurt so bad. so ever since then the tip of my tongue has been in pain. And because of that my mouth has been watering constantly. It's weird, whenever my tongue is in pain from me biting it accidentally or whatever, it always causes my mouth to water. It's getting annoying.

um, what else has been happening? i'm trying not to spend any money at the moment. I removed my credit card from my wallet because i'm more likely to justify buying something with that then i am with my debit card. Thats messed up. Especially when i have money in my checking, but i just don't want to spend it. Like i said, messed up. I should have taken it out of my wallet a long time ago.

but yeah, my tongue SIZZLED against a hot metal spatula yesterday.

Liv posted, so now i feel the need to post as well. It's been a very long time.

So, i moved again. I'm up in Park City now, so i'm closer to work. I've never lived this close to work before. Even when i was in school i've always had 20-30 minute commute. Now it's under 10. And i don't have a roommate! Which, after the last 2 places fell through because of the roommate, i've very excited to be on my own.
It's a small studio but it's just enough space. It's sort of a weird layout. I live in a house, but i'm downstairs, totally separate from the people who have the rest of the house. It helps that i work with the people who live above me. So they have me over for dinner every once in a while.
My view is amazing. I'm up on the hill side, so i'm sure theres a shit ton of snow up here in the winter. I'll have to invest in snow tires. :/

I went to Florida a few weeks ago and that was fun. Family vacations just aren't the same anymore though, now that my parents pretty much make Eric and i pay our own way everywhere we went. But work had been stressful at the time so it was nice to get away.

My grandma (dads mom) was diagnosed with "end stage dimentia" and was moved to hospice a couple weeks ago. It's sad in a way but her quality of life hasn't been great for a really long time. My aunt said that there's money in my grandmas account to fly the grandkids who don't live in the area home for the funeral. And that is awesome because a last minute flight to CIncinnati from Salt Lake would probably be about $600. So now i'm conflicted because i'm sort of excited about the free trip home. I'll probably make a little vacation out of it and go home for 5 days or something. I'm a bad person.

My friend Lauren is getting married in Thailand in November, but she's having the wedding party for friends and family at the end of this month. She asked me to make the playlist and i've got 55 songs so far. Most are love songs, but not the traditional sappy love songs, and there's some dancy fun music. Give me some song suggestions! I could use some help!

Note to self: never drink in excess in the middle of the work week.

I got together with a bunch of friends last night at their place in Park City. They were cooking up a hugeee mexican feast and we were making margaritas all night with the 8 different kinds of tequila people brought. Then we played beer pong in the middle of the street and played fetch in the dark with the coolest dog.

I really wish i could have found a place in Park City, i hate that all of my closest friends live up there. Granted its only a 25 minute drive, but its all up hill and its horrible on my car.

Also, I need a vacation!!

Snow. I feel like every entry i post involves snow and snowboarding. And that may be redundant, but honestly, thats pretty much been my life this winter. And yes, it is almost mid april. But i had yet enother epic powder day today. And there's more coming this weekend. I think today marked my 27 day out this season.

I would, however, really like to go to the ocean. Like, now.

I moved into the new place yesterday. It's nice to finally be settled somewhere. I did almost rip my thumb nail off yesterday when i went to go pick up my uhaul. It was the weirdest thing. I was walking by this rack of boxes and i sort of knew my hand would hit it as i went by (and this rack had no sharp edges) but as soon as my hand hit it there was sharp pain and i looked down at my thumb and it was already bleeding. It was the kind of pain that no matter how old you are makes you want to cry like a baby. haha. I just couldn't figure out what could have caused that sort of injury, i'm still stumped. But my whole finger was throbbing all day, which was great as i was lifting things. Even to look at my thumb it doesn't really look that bad. It's a bit better today, but still hurts if i put pressure on it.

Today, i'm going to the Canyons and am hoping to get a nice long day of riding in since i didn't get to go yesterday. I'm not going to go with anyone so i can just do my own thing, which will be nice. Liz and I went night boarding on friday night and that was really interesting. It's kind of weird though, your whole perception is off, because of all the shadows the lights cause, plus everything is more icey. But it was packed and every time we rode the lift people were being so chatty, which normally doesn't happen. Everytime the "where do you guys work?" question came up and we said backcountry.com they'd be like "ohhh, that new site you guys just launched is awesome! it's gonna kill me!" hahah, it's still weird to me that the work i do is seen by so many people.

We launched Brociety today. I have to say, for as much as i hated that logo in the beginning, i think the site turned out great. It has a very different feel then our other one-deal-at-a-time sites (whiskey militia, steep and cheap, tramdock, chainlove, and bonktown). My coworker Nick was the one that did the logo and styled the site.

But yeah, if you're in the market for some sweet snowboard gear (hey, if you need a winter coat...) that's up to 80% off then bookmark that site. I know it could do some serious damage to my bank account.

We got a pretty decent sized storm at the beginning of the week. Some resorts reported 30+ inches on wednesday morning (The Canyons, where i have my season pass only reported 13"). So i got my first powder day of the season. I gotta say, i had a lot of fun getting to ride through it. It's a whole different challenge. It just feels like you're floating (while the knee deep snow flys up and hits you in the face. haha)

It's so fun getting to ride all over the mountain, and actually get to ride with my friends. They push me to try things that i never would have found on my own. Liz and i are actually gonna check out Brighton tomorrow for some night riding. That should be interesting.

Saturday morning i'm moving the rest of my shit into the new place. I can't wait.

I found out today that it's gonna cost me about $700 to get the necessary brake repairs done on my car to get it registered in the state of Utah. Which means that when all is said and done i will have spent over $1000. Fuck you, Utah.

Luckily since i'm moving Megan isn't making me pay rent for this month, and my new roommate, Erica isn't making me pay her either. That saves me $500.

So while i was pissed off and had a meltdown in the car and cried the whole way home from the repair shop, i was comforted by the fact that while that's a shitload of money, at least i have the money and that i don't have to charge it.

It's funny how things like that work out.

I graduated to a blue run this morning. There are green, blue and black diamond runs. Green being the easiest (and not the bunny hill), blue is intermediate to advanced and black is super advanced. We got about 28 inches of snow on Sunday night/monday so the conditions were amazing today. I'm just super stoked that i made it on a blue. I did take a nasty fall about half way down my last run of the day. I caught my toe edge and slammed forward onto my chest. i cracked my neck and the impact almost knocked the wind out of me. I did the same thing a couple weeks ago and i'm pretty sure i gave myself whiplash because my neck hurt for a couple days afterwards. My neck doesn't hurt quite as bad this time but i've got a pretty good headache going right now.

It's honestly the most fun thing i've ever done. It's so so hard in the beginning, but the feeling you get when it finally all clicks is awesome.

P.S. I am 25. and that is just weird.

Damn, snowboarding is toning the shit out of my legs. It's a great workout.

I spent the weekend at Liz's place in Park City. Our friend Nick and his roommates were having a "Fuck Sundance" party on friday. They smuggled a keg in from Colorado. His roommate, Chase, is training for the Olympics in Skeleton, which is nuts. I wanna go up to the bobsled track at some point and watch him.

Yesterday Liz and i went up to the Canyons. It was raining in Park City and as we rode the gondola up the mountain it slowly turned to snow. But the conditions were such shit. It was a slushy, snowy mess. We were soaked by the end of the day. We had planned to go again today but i needed to get back to the valley because the snow was supposed to get worse as the day went on. We're gonna go tomorrow during lunch though and then Tuesday we're all off to Vegasss. So so excited.

Also, watch Travis almost die during xgames slopestyle practice:

<lj-embed id="15" />

He rides away from it and then wins his event the next night. Amazing.

smog smog smog, smoggy smog smog.

Soo, since last thursday, the Inversion in the valley has been steadily getting worse. The pictures above were taken on Sunday (i found them on flickr) and it was worse today. When i come down I-80 on my way home from work, there's a point when you get to the end of the canyon and you can look out over the whole city and the mountains on the other side of the valley. Today you couldn't even see a half a mile (or less!) in front of you. It looked like the whole city was on fire, that's how smokey and smoggy it looked. It's disgusting.

Normally it's nice and clear, like this:

You can read about inversion here.

Basically it just needs to rain/snow to get rid of it. I think we're supposed to get some precipitation later this week. Thank god.

I made possibly the best potato dish ever created tonight for dinner. Seriously, they couldn't have tasted any better.

I think i'm getting a cold. :/ My throat hurts and i feel hot. I'm hoping those two symptoms are just lingering effects of drinking way to much last night and from being in the bright sun all day up in the mountains, surrounded by snow. We'll see in the morning i suppose.

I went to an "industry party" last night in Park City. It was pretty fun. I hadn't ever gone out/partied in PC. Met some cute boys, drank excessively, had fun with some coworkers. Overall a successful evening.

I crashed at a friends place in PC afterwards and then this morning we went up to The Canyons and went riding. I'm getting better! I actually made it down a couple runs without killing myself. Amazing. I lasted a couple hours and then my hangover really hit me and i needed to get out of there. But I'm gonna try to keep the momentum going and go up again this week sometime. Good times.

Oy, i'm tired.

Rambling. I'm doin' it right.

I bought these shoes today from swell.com for $7.50. I have no idea why they were so cheap. All the other sale shoes we're still like $35. But i'm excited. Plus i love stripes, especially metallic gold ones.

Also, i've got two confessions to make.

One, my dad bought my mom David Archuletas cd for christmas so i was forced to listen to it while i was home, and that little fucker grew on me. So much so that i ripped the album onto my computer and have been listening to it ever since. (With the exception of his "i'm saving myself for marriage" song and his cover of a Robbie Williams' Angels, because it's just not right hearing Robbies songs from anyone other then Robbie) It's just weird because i never watched a single episode of American Idol, i don't even think i'd ever heard his voice until my mom put that damn album on. I thought i could resist all the hype, but the kids got a great voice.

Two, that Taylor Swift album...so catchy. I don't even know why i downloaded it in the first place. But it's good and i currently can't get enough. Embarrassing.

I have however been balancing it out with Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead". Look it up on itunes or something. It couldn't be further from those two, actually. Thank God. It's probably my favorite tune at the moment.

I found out that i've got 61 days left in my t-mobile contract. I've been thinking about getting an iphone recently. Ever since Liz at work told me that her monthly iphone service plan is only like $65 a month. I always heard the cheapest plan was $99+. Plus my ipod was crushed to death over the summer and i haven't replaced it yet so this thing would take care of that need as well. You like how i just justified that?

What else can i talk about...
Oh, we bought a fish for our little creative pod at work. A pretty pink/purple beta fish we named Mr. Gibson. He eats a lot and likes to look at himself in the mirror.

Ok, i'm done. :)

Just found out Backcountry is flying a few coworkers and I down to Vegas 3 weeks from today for SIA. Not sure which hotel we're staying at but i'm stoked! My only Vegas experience was when i was 19 and as a result doesn't really count towards a true Vegas experience.

I get to see all of our vendors winter gear for 2010 early!

I saw Milk on Friday night and it was really great. I've never seen a Sean Penn film, i don't think, but he was amazing. As was Emile Hirsch. I've always liked him and it was funny seeing him in that role.

And i guess i just never really thought about it, but it really is awful how badly gays were treated back then. And even though it's obvious how far society has come with accepting them, it really made me wonder if people would be as accepting of say, an openly gay presidential candiate, or if having an openly gay running mate could cost someone their election.

It was also interesting how this film sort of mirrored all the hoopla going on with Prop 8. I can only hope that in 25-30 years (hopefully not even that long) we can look back at the banning of gay marriage and wonder how we could have been so closed minded, the way we look back at their Prop 6 and are amazed that people thought gays shouldn't be allowed to teach.
